Bandjango Collectif (formerly known as French Oak) is a wild-around-the-edges musical experience, melding French Gypsy Jazz & Chanson, New Orleans Jazz, and global traditional folk into one vibrant, transportive sound.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, North Bay native and vocalist Stella Heath leads this spirited ensemble in performances that are at once deeply rooted and joyfully unpredictable. With a French-inspired global panoply of sounds, Bandjango showcases Heath’s magnetic vocals alongside tight, driving rhythms and a rotating cast of world-class musicians.
The band’s sound moves effortlessly between smoky Parisian cabarets, New Orleans dance halls, and far-reaching musical traditions—inviting audiences into a rich and celebratory musical landscape.
FROM BILLIE HOLIDAY TO EDITH PIAF
An extension of this work is Heath’s program From Billie Holiday to Edith Piaf, which draws a compelling throughline between two iconic artists born in 1915. Through song and storytelling, the program highlights the shared emotional depth and cultural resonance of Holiday and Piaf, offering a more intimate, narrative-driven experience rooted in the same global influences that define Bandjango.
Whether in a high-energy festival setting or a more intimate concert environment, Bandjango creates an atmosphere that is immersive, playful, and deeply connected to the traditions that inspire it.
